Happy Tweets Monday!

Who is in for a little motivation today? After this birthday/Easter weekend filled with laser tag, golf, cleaning, friends. family, and FOOD, I need an afternoon WAKE UP CALL! So, it’s time for Happy Tweets Monday!

Hello, Hello, Happy People!

I hope you had a wonderful sleep! I did not, as I just kept thinking that there are only 16 more sleeps until I marry my Timmykins! I am sure he wonders if I will stop utilizing that AWFUL nickname for him after we are hitched. But, it’s basically second nature to me at this point.

Can you really blame me for taking a BAD nickname placed on him by an ex and poking fun, just a little? He has more prominent nicknames in our together life, but this is the one I choose to share.

And really, if he hated it, I would stop.

But, this is not the point of this post.

The point of this post is to let you know that My “About” page has been TRANSFORMED into my “Purpose Page!”

It has come to my attention that not only was my “About” page bland, but it didn’t really share ANYTHING about me, aside from a few words. With a little research, hesitance (change is always hard, isn’t it?), and a revision or two, I have come up with my “Purpose Page!” to open up a little more about my life and why I choose to blog about happiness and carry on in the way that I do.

Truthfully, guys and dolls, I am an old granny at heart who seeks happiness on a regular basis – through gestures small and grand, people, places, and things. Who looks at a butterfly and gets a sinking or hateful feeling? No one. But who actually takes time to look at the butterfly, to inspect it, take in its full beauty and let happiness wash over them? Not many. I feel that it is my duty as The RoaminTwin to find joy in everything and pass it on to you, cultivating a culture of positivity that is motivated to spread and thrive. Long after I am gone.

To find out more, check out the “Purpose Page!”, as well as liking me on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Roamin4Happiness) and following me on Twitter, @RoaminTwin

Now, c’mon! Get happy!

Happy Tweets Tuesday

I need motivation more than anything TODAY, so part of me is grateful that I didn’t compile the Happy Tweets yesterday. I was just running around all over the place, and my BUSYness motivated me. Today, I feel like I could fall asleep at any point — even walking around the office! And I just have so much more day to go…

I am not distracted by anything. Except for sleep.

So, for those of you ALSO distracted (by sleep, marriage prep, trips coming up, school, babies, etc.), here are this week’s Happy Tweets to get you back on track to succeed in ALL areas!

Thank You

Since I was born, a Thank You note has been written for every gift I have received. Before I could write, it was my mom who wrote them. As I got older, I wrote the simple kind:

Dear Grandma,

Thank you for the blanket. It is so warm and I will love it forever.

Love, RoaminTwin

For the past 10 or so years, these have developed into more thoughtful and intricate notes. I let Uncle David know what I plan on using the gift card for. Aunt Vickie knows that I love sparkles, especially in my favorite color! And these thank yous are as sincere as can be: no just grazing the surface here!

My mom INGRAINED into her kids the importance of a Thank You note. Sure, most of them probably end up in the trash after being read once (though I would appreciate them to be at least RECYCLED), but at least for that one read-through, your loved ones know you took the time to think of them and their thoughtful gift and thank them. And the thing is, this practice of Thank You note writing all of these years has led to a greater understanding and appreciation of people and LIFE! Gratitude is not an automated response, but one of the deepest feelings I have ever–and will ever–feel.

What are YOUR thoughts on gratitude? Does it heighten your happiness, your life?

I know I have said this before, and I will say and feel it again: Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. For your support, your comments, your love. Without this close-knit community of happiness-seekers and journeymen, I wouldn’t have the motivation to keep doing what I do, in happiness. THANK YOU!

The Most Daunting “F” Word: FINANCES

Exactly one week ago, I told you about 2014 being MY Year of the “F” Word. A day later, I dove into “F” Word #1, and the meaning of it’s placement in my life in 2014. Next, I explained why I included The BIGGEST “F” Word of them ALL: FAMILY (because they are kind of a big deal). What next?

Disclaimer: As mentioned in my first post on the subject, my “F” Words are not listed in terms of relevance to me, and neither will they be explained in any particular order.

#3: Finances. Not something I ever thought I would have a hard time with. Ever.

I have been listening to the Dave Ramsey show in the car with my mom for years. I saved up as much money as I could prior to college so that I would have some spending money. I lived at my parents’ house following college for nearly 3 years to save enough money to move out while also being ahead. I should have thought more about the “saving money” part while there, because I didn’t come out with as much in savings as I anticipated.

Especially with a wedding coming up.

So, as you may have read in a number of my posts, I recently moved out of my parents’ home. And I have this wedding on the horizon. Timmykins and I are paying for it (for the most part) on our own. My parents have generously offered to help out, but I want to take care of it as much as possible. With his bonus being a little less than anticipated, and my not putting myself on a spending fast (as of yet), we aren’t quite where we want to be for the wedding…2 1/2 months out.

AND at this point, I won’t have that cushy nest egg when we are finished paying for this big ole shebang that I have right now, as my savings account became my wedding account.

Should I have stayed living with my family until the wedding? Probably. But I really wanted to live on my own for the first time in my life (if even just for a few fleeting months), I am getting a pretty good deal where I am staying because it is a good friend renting it to me, and now, Timmykins and I have a guaranteed place to live for after the wedding (at least until my friend moves home and wants his digs back, which is up in the air for now 🙂 ). Should I have gone on a spending fast way before now? Yes. But: CHRISTMAS.

I had a bit of a meltdown at marriage prep weekend this past weekend – not the place to have a meltdown – and hyperventilated going over how little I will be able to contribute to the wedding in my coming paychecks. So, I made a plan to put a specific amount of money directly into the wedding savings account every time I get paid, and to only pull money from that account for the wedding. When Timmykins and I mapped it out, we are going to be able to save just about the amount we need come wedding time. PHEW!

But then, what about AFTER the wedding?

This is my 2014 financial plan: Build & Maintain. Only, after March 21st, I must focus on two of us.

After the wedding, I will continue on a little spending fast (no impulse buying, eating healthy and not buying a bunch of snacks or fast food, keeping the bills down as much as possible) in order to:

A. Build the emergency nest egg back up
B. Continue to pay off my student loans. I am officially announcing that I will have these paid off by December 2014 (I THINK I can, I KNOW I can).
C. Save up enough money to take a family trip abroad this summer (if my parents see fit) as well as honeymoon in the fall. Comfortably.
D. Keep Timmykins on track to save more than he spends
E. If we see fit, combine our checking accounts into one. Ahhh, married life 🙂

So, now that I have laid that out in front of me for the first time (thank you, readers, for the motivation!), I can more carefully plan, and DO! This “F” Word could constantly have me going “OH F***!!”, but with a little budgeting based on what I KNOW lies ahead, as well as all of the unknowns, I can keep my head on straight.

And so can you!

What are YOUR 2014 Financial Plans?

Happy Tweets Friday!

Hello, Happy People!

For a lot of you, this is the afternoon home-stretch of your week! Even if your work week was cut short by the holiday, exhaustion is setting in from the festivities, and instead of feeling the second day of work, it has quickly become evident that this is, indeed, FRIDAY.

So, I thought it would be appropriate to share happy tweets today! To get you through the remaining, grueling hours of your workday, and motivate you to get things DONE this weekend.

But, also to motivate me. There is a snow storm a-comin’, and I need that “OOMPH!” to not stay curled up in my warm bed all day tomorrow 🙂

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Happy People!

I am currently working on some content to assist all of us – I am greedy, so me as well – in becoming more of what we want: more happy, more adventurous, more productive, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!

But, for the time being, I am going to preach. Give a short sermon if you will:

If someone is on your mind, contact them!

No, I don’t mean an ex girlfriend or boyfriend, nor do I mean anyone who has been toxic in your life that you have worked hard to let go of (and if you still have toxic people in your life, trust me, letting them go will make your life so much simpler and happier in the long run).

My mom has been talking about calling my Granny for weeks.

You will hear more about Granny on this blog because she is one of my best buds, a non-biological grandmother that has impacted my life from the get go, and someone I have found a bazillion commonalities with as the years have gone by.

Back to my main point – Mom called Granny last night and a HUGE life change has occurred in the last couple of days. As of right now, it’s not good, it’s not bad, it’s just a HUGE change for a woman of 90. If my mom hadn’t have called, it would have taken us a very long time to figure out the change, causing turmoil and confusion. I should have called. But at this point, it’s “coulda-woulda-shoulda” for the past, and time to move on and check in with my dear friend more often from here on out.

Because she is on my mind constantly (living 1,500 miles away).

And if someone is on your mind as much as she is on mine (again – disregard exes and toxic humans), a bridge of communication needs to be built, starting with YOU. YOU are in control of your thoughts, with your decisions, and with your life.

So, let go of fear, regret, and anything else, and call that person you’ve been thinking of. You will only regret the action you don’t take.

Happy Tweets Tuesday!

The more I think about it, the more I think that, as hard as I try, I may just need to deem one day a week – any day – as Happy Tweets Day. Life is way too unpredictable, and sometimes something is weighing on my mind that I just need to write about (like yesterday’s post).

So, even though it is Tuesday, today will be Happy Tweets Day for this week! Take it or leave it, we all need little spurts of happiness and motivation every once in awhile 🙂

Guilty Pleasures

Happy Tuesday, All!

I have to be truthful here: I had a mental block today. This doesn’t happen often, because I have so much to smile about! But today started off a little downer, and the inspiration just didn’t come to me.

Until I got around to thinking about how I WISH I could have a dark dark DARK chocolate candy right now. Not a full bar, just a little piece. Or be in zumba class. Or have a glass of red wine in hand at work. Or even how I would rather have Miley Cyrus’ latest trainwreck, ‘We Can’t Stop’ stuck in my head than nothing at all.

Welp, there it is! We can’t stop…and we won’t stoooooop…

Guilty pleasures. We all have them. And they wouldn’t be called “pleasures” if they didn’t bring us some kind of joy. I feel like my guilty pleasures break up the monotony that life turns into sometimes. Maybe that is where I am at today. I need a little shake up. I want something more than to wake up, think about working out (and then not), going to my 9-5, eating as cleanly as possible, working my side hustle/working out/my brothers’ sporting events, going to bed.

And, I don’t feel like a robot most of the time, but today is just one of those days in a million.

Even one little piece of chocolate would mix it up for me. And just placing the thought of it in my mind makes me happy (sans the calories).

What are some of YOUR guilty pleasures? Do they bring more guilt than happiness into your life?

Blog Challenge: Days 28 & 29

It’s another double up day for RoaminTwin!

We are SO CLOSE to the end of this 30 Day Blog Challenge, and I think it would be unfair to lag myself another day late (I should have completed this today).

If you don’t know what this is, check it out HERE!

Enjoying the Blog Challenge material? Stop by my twin sister’s BLOG! We are answering the same questions separately to see how similar our answers are! Do YOURS match any of ours?

Here are the prompts for days 28 & 29, and what I have to say in response!

Day 28 Question: What travel tools and services are most important to you when taking your business abroad?

A: I have already commented on what I couldn’t live without while traveling, so basically, this is an addendum to that! Since I would be taking my laptop with me, I will need plug in adapters. There is a USB one (more convenient than the big bulky ones I have taken overseas in the past) on TSE’s Day 28 Post that I would definitely be looking into. I would also need a backup hard drive of at LEAST 1 TB, as well as traveler’s insurance (for all of the crazy, adventurous things I will be doing that I don’t do on a regular basis and have never done before)!

I am sure there will be other gadgets and services that I will learn about between now and my travels, but for now, this frugal mind is done spending hypothetical money hypothetically 🙂

Day 29 Question: What does your blueprint for living the dream look like to you?

A: Beyond all certainty, I want my life to be wonderful, I want to be happy and I want my loved ones to be happy, I want to travel the world, I want to own my own business, and I want to spend the rest of my life with my buddy, Timmykins. I will never give up my passion for film, and I still plan on taking the film industry by storm with SOMETHING one of these days. I won’t give that up. I also won’t give up a career/lifestyle that I love. We will adapt our lives accordingly, but there is no reason to give up what makes us happy for anything. And, honestly? I don’t mind spending some money (as long as we make it first) to travel. Yes, I always want to be one step ahead financially, but sometimes, the future may have to take a backseat for awhile for adventure. Because, what is life for? I sure as HECK am not living today only planning for tomorrow!

What life blueprint would make YOU happy? Honest-to-goodness elated about life? Let me know!

1 more day of the challenge to go…

❤ The RoaminTwin
